Angela Corey is one of five children born to Jacksonville natives Thomas and Lorraine Corey. She was born in downtown Jacksonville in the Fairfield section of town, then grew up on Jacksonville’s Southside where she and her four siblings, Susan, Tommy, Cathy and Marlo, all attended Hogan Spring Glen Elementary School, Southside Junior High School and Englewood High School. The entire Corey family is very active at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral.
Angela attended Florida State University and graduated with a B.S. in Marketing, then went on to law school at the University of Florida. In 1980 she joined the law firm of Howell and Howell in Jacksonville Beach where they specialized in insurance defense work. In 1981, State Attorney Ed Austin hired Angela as an Assistant State Attorney. During her 25 year tenure at the State Attorney’s office, Angela tried hundreds of cases including more than 50 homicides. In 2007, Angela joined the 7th Judicial Circuit as an Assistant State Attorney in the homicide investigative unit of St. Johns County.
Angela is very active in her church, having served on the Vestry of the Cathedral from 1987 to 1989. For the past 16 years, Angela has participated almost every Sunday in Children’s Chapel, where she loves to help teach the children from ages 5 to 10. Angela attended Cursillo in the late 1980's which had a profound impact on her spiritual life. |
